I have a chevrolet camaro 1980 with 2 speakers in the back [6'' by 8''] and one in the front 10''. This is the stock sterio for that model. How do i upgrade so i can pug my ipod in directly and get better sound quality...

Are old speakers just as good as new ones?

Is it a 2 channel system? What is that?

Are bigger speakers louder?

how does an amplifier work?

  1. get 2 15's,and a 1500watt amp

  2. ^^^^^^

    whatever hes talkin about ...lol

first off, new, aftermarket speakers will waaay out perform the stock ones.

secondly, being an older car (i had an 81 malibu), you don't have to worry about much wiring. what i did in my malibu was use the power, ground and acc. in the dash and just ran new speaker wire to the new speakers. the ones in the rear should be farily easy to replace, you can find 6x8's out there. you could also fit in 6.5 round or 5.25 round by making a simple adaptor plat out of 1/4 hard board. as for the front, i believe your talking about the long 10" (by 2" maybe) in the center of the dash. you won't find a replacement one of these. you can however, get a pair of 2" or smaller tweeters and stick them in there. since the tweeters up front will lack low freq. i would look into building custom kick panels or door panels and getting some good 6.5's in them.

2channel stsyem i believe, in your case, is simply front and rear. an aftermarket radio will get you a 4 channel left right front and rear

no. the bigger does not mean louder. quality, efficiency, machanical engeering and a lot more going to that.

the radio will connect to the amp via the remote line (radio turs on and off the amp with the radio) and the RCA's (send the musical signal). the amp will also need power and to bet grounded. the amp's speaker outputs then go the speakers.
