Question:

1982 XS 400 SJ Yamaha motorcycle left turn signals not blinking?

The left turn signal lights (front & back) sometimes work but usually only blink once or twice now before they go solid and stop blinking. This just started happening during the last week or so as the turn signals used to work fine. The right turn signal lights still function properly. I'm wondering if the turn signal relay needs to be replaced or if the right turn signals functioning mean that the relay is ok. Any ideas on what needs to be done? thanks

  1. well i think back in 82 they used seperate relays for diff sides of the bike to make it simpler to replace or repair, but this is quite a common problem with both bikes nad cars from the 80's firstly check the connections with the relay unit, if you have any knowledge of electrical testing or the manual to help u, get urself a multimeter and test all connections to, also you may consider replacing the contacts they can corrode and become unreliable, eg on a hot day there wont be many probs because the metal expands and makes better contact.

    hope this helps
