Hi everyone...im 17 and i just bought a 1983 Suzuki GS550 and just finished the level one motorcycle safety course, so i'll be upgrading to my M2 shortly....so i wanted to test drive my own bike, to get a feel for it, but i cant do that until i get insurance...i've heard from SO MANY PEOPLE that their insurance is a few hundred a year max....and the guy i bought the bike from said his was $300 a year....but when i went to like 5 different insurance companies, they are all quoting my outrageous amounts, starting from $3000 a year all the way to $8500 a year!! why are they charging so much?? how can i get lower insurance and where can i go ? i live in ontario and need insurance ! thanks for all your help!

  1. How old was they guy you bought it from? There's no way you being 17, will get insurance for $300 a year. I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but it won't happen!

Are you getting quotes for liability only? It shouldn't be $8,500 a year for liability! Since it's 25 years old, I'd opt for the liability only.

  2. 17 ?

    Holy Ninja_Girl !

  3. They are quoting you full-coverage rates.  Tell them you want liability only and see if the rates don't drop dramatically.

  4. carnegie general insurance insures bikes
