1983 World Cup win our greatest achievement: Sachin Tendulkar
Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar has said that India’s World Cup triumph in 1983 has been their greatest achievement in the game so far.
He said that the win completely changed the scope of the game in the country. Tendulkar was only 10 years old at that time and he still cherishes his childhood memories and rated the Indian victory in the event as the best of the lot.
Tendulkar said, “Winning the World Cup in 1983, against heavy odds, was a huge achievement; perhaps the greatest in the history of Indian cricket! The significance of that win is that it changed the course of Indian cricket forever.”
Tendulkar is considered as one of the best batsmen the world has ever produced and possesses almost all the possible batting records in the game. However the only blemish in his illustrious career is that he has never been a part of a World Cup winning team.

“There were unbelievable scenes in my building and the neighborhood on that historic night when India won the World Cup. People were dancing on the streets and bursting firecrackers everywhere. As a 10-year-old who knew very little about the game, I got
immersed in the mood and enjoyed the victory with my friends till the early hours of the morning,” Sachin added.
The upcoming ICC World Cup 2011 is going to be Tendulkar’s last appearance at cricket’s flagship event and he has already shown his eagerness to win the elusive trophy before he bids adieu to the game.
