ok i am looking at a 84 chevy truck tomorrow the engine 350 carb has been worked on (the intake and carb are new)it has a rebuilt 350 trans 4wd stock height and a new exhaust as well as many other parts

it has the leaf front end(the main reason i want it) and the body has been taken off redone and put back on and the lines look good(from the photos)

what i need to know is what to look at

i know about the whole steering box 2 frame issue and the spring mounts issue the transfer case and the front axel tube issue

i will remove the rear shaft and see if the 4wd works and if the lockouts work

but i still think i am forgetting something

something that a 84 has wrong except the above

thanks

  1. one thing is that its not fuel injected. Id be looking for a 87 instead.

  2. I assume that since the body has been off that all the rust issues in the floor and cab mount areas have been taken care of. Listen for cracking or popping sounds from the front end of the truck while turning corners. This could indicate bad axle u-joints. This goes for all 4x4's, not just GM products.

It sounds like you have the rest covered pretty well. Good luck, I hope it's what you are looking for.
