1985 Pontiac Fierro Manual transmission locked whats up?

I cannot get my Fierro to shift, sometime when I trurn off the car and pump the break I can get it back into grear. But then it feezes up again. The fluid level seems ok. What"s next?

  1. Sounds like your synchronizer is out of whack.   You need to get it fixed.

    If you do not get it fixed,  try leaving your car in the correct gear for the direction you will want to go later when you stop.  For example,  if you will want to go forward when you return to your car,  leave it in first gear when you stop.  Then when you start your car you can just push in the clutch,  start the car then let the clutch out.  The gears should be properly lined up and you should not have a problem.   If you find it happens when you shift when you move,  try double clutching.   Clutch once to get the car out of gear then quickly clutch again to spin the cog wheels so they line up for the next gear.  

    But again,  getting it fixed is best.
