  1. Poorly constructed, it was a cheap boat package designed in the 80's (when we all had money). I had one for a very short time, then I got in a friends same sized "Boston Whaler", I was like "Whoa, this is a BIG difference", I jumped up and down on the floor, and it was like I was doing it on the sidewalk it was so strong, I soon bought a used "Whaler", Ive had it almost 20 years now, it's built like a truck, and a lot prettier, and here's the "Capper", "IT WON'T SINK ! something to think about when on the water.

  2. The basic skinny on the Bayliner is that they are made cheep.  the truth is it's all subjective.  If the boat fits YOUR needs and YOU are happy with it good for you.  I have a 90 Glastron bow-runner with a mercruiser 140 i/0.  I asked a very similar ?.  The result was 60/40 against getting the boat.  I got it anyway.  I treat her right and keep her well maintained.  She has preformed better than my expectations.  So.... The bottom line is this is a good valid question but you will get a different response from just about everybody who answers.  If YOU like the boat and treat her right she will last for as long as you want to keep her.  As for the Engine I have only heard good things about Volvo's find a mechanic that likes them and your all set

  3. you are hearing correct gayliner's suck my dad worked in the boat manufacturing buisness for 28 years and threatened to disown me when I was going to buy one he was right I bought a master craft instead and had no problems since.

  4. As I have said before Bayliner boats are made for entry level middle class buyers. They were made for families who wanted to go boating but couldn't afford any thing big and fancy. Volvo Penta is a good product but like everything has it's bugs. if you take care of problems early you should have a good boat to enjoy.

A boat that old can have a lot of structural problems such as rot between the floor and hull. Those boats had wood stringers and by now may be rotten. The wood between the fiberglass on the transom could also be rotten.

Depending on how many hours are on the boat problems could pop up in carburetors, valve and cylinder problems.

    IMO find a newer boat.
