A friend's friend is selling his 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe. It's got about 81,000 miles. Modified engine, Flowmaster exhaust, supposed brand new transmission... Not even the paint is stock. He said he's put a lot of time and money into it. Wants $6,000 and won't budge on the price.

Good buy?

  1. 1987?

NO.  At current GAS prices, those old engines will drive you to bankruptcy. They run on carburetor instead of fuel injector.  That means that they always run rich (burn excessive fuel) to prevent engine knock.

Also those cars have are all operated by vacuum system (not by the computer).  And less and less mechanics know how to diagnose those engines. Many younger mechanics don't even know how to do a proper tune up on vacuum advanced cars.

I think you should go for more modern car.

    Good Luck...

  2. I would pay that in a new york minute

those werent that easy to find thatnks to the buick grand nationals popularity

also that year was the last year of the mean looking cars

if that thing runs and looks good

the ss were semi hard to find at that time and they still are now
