1988 3.0L Mercruiser Starts but won't run?

I have an 88 3.0L Mercruiser that will start, run for a few seconds and then stop. I bought the boat from a friend who let it sit for seven years. It starts relatively easily, (just a few pumps with the throttle) but it seems as soon as it burns off the fuel from the accelerator pump, it stops. If I pump the throttle while it is running, it still stops. Once it is off, If I pump the throttle and crank it again, it starts right up. I have rebuilt the carb which had a great deal of hard Varnish deposits in it. The only parts I did not replace were the Power piston (Which I freed/cleaned and it seems to move freely), the power valve (I purchased today and will install tonight), the venturi assembly and the metering jets (both Cleaned). Someone suggested it may be the fuel pump or the anti siphon valve which I will check tonight - but other than that I am at a loss. I have also drained the fuel tank, changed the oil, replaced the impeller, and lower unit oil.

Any suggestions?
