My car likes to shut off whenever it wants to. I have changed the fuel pump, the cam sensor, the spark plugs, the wires and I know of two other parts. Still did the same thing, took it and had it put on the computer, the mechanic said the computer was bad, I changed it. Car is still doing the same thing. The mechanic told me to give the car to him so he can drive it and figure it out, the only thing is, it is my only transportation. Sometimes the car will go for 2 weeks before doing it or it will do it 3 or 4 times a day. Is there anyone who can help me out?

  1. You might try another mechanic. But a big factor is your inability to let him have the vehicle long enough to pinpoint the problem. Your mechanic should be able to utilize a digital storage oscilloscope. (DSO) preferably a 4 channel unit. He should monitor the crankshaft sensor patterns (X18 and X3) and watch the squarewave patterns for degradation. He should also monitor MAF and DIS signals too.  Hopefully he has advanced diagnostic equipment available. If not, he is costing you extra bucks by playing the "replace parts until the problem goes away" game. Make sure he has performed wiggle tests on all the wiring connector points such as the C3I module, TPS and the MAF sensor connectors. A faulty IAC valve maybe?
