I removed my mechanical fuel pump from 1988 mercruiser gm motor and I am having trouble getting the push rod to move up towards the crank, I keep turning the engine over with a socket but it doesnt seem to be moving up, there is a threaded plug below on the block that lines up with the pushrod, should I remove that in order the get the pushrod out grease it up and put it back up in thats all i can come up with

  1. I'm not sure I understand your problem, but if memory serves me the push rod just slips in, I don't remember any plug.  Are you working from the fuel pump Boss???? I think your on the right track to lube it up, and try pulling it out, but you might have to pull the pan to get to it.
