  1. If your vehicle was in regular use than just change the battery.  If you plan to start a bike which has been lying a long time, it will require a lot more.

A 20 year old, needs care and attention.  If you do not know the vehicle well enough, I suggest you to take the help of a well equipped service station.  The company's authorised service station would ofcourse be the best place to enquire.  Good Luck.

  2. You mean you can jump it at the solenoid by crossing it with a s***w driver right? The relay is something different and actually might be the problem.

Can you hear the relay clicking when you hit the start button? The element inside may be burned up and not making contact...

In your situation I would start by checking the fuses.. that would be the cheapest fix, then replace the starter relay... if that doesn't fix it, then go out and by a starter button at auto zone or pep boys, locate the two wires going in and out of the starter button on the handle bars, run them through the starter button you bought and hit it, see if it cranks that way..if it does then replace the button on the bars.

Im going to bet my money on the starter relay being bad, or a blown fuse. You can find the relay pretty easy if it is still clicking and just not making contact...just keep hitting the start button and follow the click.

I dont think its the clutch switch or kick stand switch, the bike would still start in nuetral.

    Good luck

  3. Either the relay, or the start button.

Neutral light switch, or clutch switch.

Does the neutral light go on & off when you shift gears?

Try pulling in the clutch lever when you press the start button.

Unplug the relay from the wire harness and jump the connector to the battery & ground

  4. could be the side stand switch, clutch switch, starter solenoid(relay that you jumped), or start switch. if i had to venture a guess i would say it is the clutch switch. look under the clutch lever, you will see 2 wires  disconnect them and make a jumper (piece of wire stripped at both ends or a paperclip) then try and start. hope this helps
