  1. I had a similar problem with my 1989 90 HP Johnson VRO.  For me it turned out to be a leaky carberautor bleeding fuel out and letting too much air in, causing two cylinders to run very lean.  Giving it more throttle=more fuel=would run, but when I dropped down to idle it would stall.
