Question:

1989 Lincoln Mark VII Engine Problem?

Hey All, I recently bought a 1989 Lincoln Mark VII LSC from my elder mother, obviously with the 5.0 liter engine. It has 150,000 miles on it and she just got it serviced not long ago. Its a great car but one problem is that when you go around a turn or sometimes even straight down the road, it has ZERO pickup. I sometimes have to push the pedal all the way to the floor and there is nothing for awhile, and then it revs way up and picks up. Also, the fuel gauge doesnt work and has some small electrical problems. Any idea on what this could be? I'm thinking it could be a clogged fuel filter or spark plug problems.

My mom only drove it once a week at 30 MPH for a very short distance for over 2 years.

Thanks alot for the help, best answer to most detailed. Cheers

  1. Do the tune up, but def change the timing belt as well.

  2. You might be on the right track. I would take it to a mechanic. You'll go broke and waste time and money just changing parts trying to guess what the problem is. What did she have serviced? Maybe it was an oil change when the car actually needs a tuneup. If you must change the fuel filter and spark plugs, go ahead, but it's unlikely that these are the only problems.
