1989 Maxum Cuddy 19.7 foot with Force 125 Outbourd?

I just purchased this boat for $2800.00

It came with a 2002 Venture Trailor, Bimini top, CD Player and 2 fish finders. I test drove this boat a week before buying and it ran GREAT.... I ran a compression test on the motor and all cylinders are within 140 to 150 range.

I am just hearing a lot of bad reputation on the force motor??

I want to know why?? I took the cover off my outboard and it looks like new.

Any info on this Boat or Motor would be great.

Also I hear that parts for this motor are very hard to find?? I looked on e-bay for a few minutes and found most parts available.

I just want some more info from those who know or have owned these..

Thank You

Scott

  1. The Force engine was really a

Chrysler engine that Mercury brought out as an entry level priced engine, and when packaged with the Maxum ( a dressed up Bayliner) allowed a lot of people to experience boating that may not have been able to normally.

The price you paid is in line with the true value of the package, you bought a nice trailer for 2800. and they threw in a boat and motor.

I hope that you have a good experience with this package but don't be too surprised if you quickly decide that you may have wanted to shop around a little longer.

  2. I have never owned one but I have know some people that have. I believe back in 1989 Chrysler ( OMC) was the builder of Force outboards. For which they were not any good. Chrysler didnt make good outboards. Later Mercury bought out Force for which later sold them. So the answer to your question is no they were not good motors.

  3. most forces are mercury's just an older version, they are fine, I hear that too, (about the parts), but you can still get them without a problem.  you got a good deal, the only engine that's no good is a broken one, as long as it runs do not worry about it.

  4. Force? , Attach a 4 ft Piece of Chain and a very good Quality rope and it makes a very good Anchor, all your out is the cost of the rope and chain.

Sorry, That's my feeling about them, I have heard nothing but things about them.

  5. i duno

  6. it probably was new. (as engines are maintenance classed by the number of hrs they run, rather  than like a car, the number of miles!!)

  7. force is a good motor. for parts try Marine engines.co,.

  8. I had a Force on my Bayliner Capri, I didn't like it. Never started right. It started, but since day 1 it took about 10 tries to get it started. I now run only Mercury motors, they always start easily. Still for 2800.00 it's a good buy
