Ok so I have a 1989 Ford Mustang and I was wondering how do you read the tachometer? Right Now It reads 15,789.8 How Do I know if it is over 100,000 miles or not? beacuse wiht the tach on it, it only goes up to 99,000 But Im sure there arent 15,000 miles on it because on the last check up the mileage was 88,000

And When I start the car and the seatbelt isnt buckled, it doesnt chime the warning like its supposed to... how do I fix that.

Any help is great!!! Thanks!

  1. 1. that's the odometer. the tach measures engine RPM

    2. imagine a 1 in front of the 15789.8. there's yer miles

    3. i'm not sure why you'd want to, but to fix the warning, find the circuit and the unit. determine which is bad (probably the unit, rather than the wiring), and repair/replace as needed. you'll probably need to a find a wiring diagram

  2. Vehicle mileage is reflected on the odometer.

The tachometer displays the engine's RPM or engine speed.

The speedometer shows the vehicle speed.

Run a carfax to find out true miles, or your state's Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivilant-where you register it) should be able to find out.

You miss that chime? I wish mine would stop!

  3. Well for 1 you are looking at the odometer.  If it rolls over after 99,999 like a lot of other cars in the 80s's and early then you just add 100k to what it reads.  Your car has 115,789.8 miles or 215,789.8 miles.  It shouldn't be hard to figure out which one yours has.

Someone probably disconnected the seat belt warning wire.  It was pretty common on all cars since a lot of older people didn't wear their  seat belts and got sick of hearing the car beep at them.

    A tachometer reads engine speeds.
