1989 Toyota not changing gears

Question

Its an automatic, it drives but on a certain speed , like 20-25 mph. when i start the car the whole trans starts shaking like crazy. and then when i accelerate it just shuts off.

it goes into reverse and stuff.

i really need help. do i need a new trans or can i fix it myself

my answer is try to check it out first on auto repair shop...

Sounds like the transmission is at the last leg of its life. Probably you need a transmission.
