1990 Chevy 2500 4x4 with no second gear....

Question

I just bought this Chevy 2500 4x4 for $1200 and I already lost a gear. It has 323k miles on it. I drive it daily but it has no second gear. It shifts from first to third. Does the trans need a rebuild? What trans is in it? 4l60e or 700r4? If it does need a rebuild would it be best just to get rid of the TBI bs and drop a carb 350 in there or what?

The carb will s***w the trans up faster than anything.  The transmission either fried a clutch pack, or burned up a shift solenoid.  Solenoids are not uncommon to die in those.  You will have to drop the pan and use an ohm meter to test them.
