Question:

1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4x4 Engine Chirping Noise

I purchased a 1990 Jeep in May of this year. In the last few days I have heard a "chirping" noise when the engine is at idling speed. This morning when I got to work, I popped the hood and stood there listening at different points. Sounds like the noise is at the front, and I am wondering if that could be a belt? Also, going over a hill two weeks ago, nearing the bottom and making a turn, the engine just died. She started right back up, ran just fine. Two days ago, I was at a stop light and she started dieseling like she was gonna die, so I put her in park and hit the gas a couple times, she perked right up and ran just fine. Could the chirp and the other issue be related to each other?

  1. Replace the drive belt and scan the vehicles computer..

  2. Definitely sound like a belt.  Aside from having a mechanic look at it, try running a can of injector cleaner in your next tank of gas.  Jeeps are pretty bulletproof.
