  1. easiest would probably be to convert it to run on 95% or 100%methanol. you would have to replace all the rubber parts in the fuel system to alcohol resistant synthetics.

it would probably be easier to fit a carburetor & manifold from an 87 model than to modify your electronic fuel injection.you will have to change the carb jets to ones that pass 35% more fuel.

it would also be more effecient if you changed your pistons to ones with 13 to 1 compression.

you can also get kits to convert it to compressed natural gas (CNG) if you live out west where fueling stations are available.

you will have to carry the cng tank in the bed.

you could buy a compresser to refuel it from your house gas line but this is expensive & somewhat dangerous.

theres a story on yahoo buzz today about a dude who built a gasifier in the back of his truck & runs it on coffee grounds.

  2. If you live in an area with lots of scrap wood, a wood gas unit is an option. There were quite a number of those units around at the end of world war 2. They had become popular enough to be used in a city gas supply. The same equipment was used to produce coal gas, but today coal with water extraction of the gas would be preferred.

A caution. most jurisdictions require a properly engineered, certified system if it is going to run on any gaseous fuel.

  3. I hope I can help with your conversion project.   Peak oil, short sighted policies, and damaging our people and environment by burning gasoline is s******g the oil companies.  Although we all owe them a big thanks for developing an economy and moving us in 100 years technologically speaking to a point that would have taken 1000 or more years.

Here's my 2 cents on which way to convert a 1990 Dodge:

If it's a diesel, convert to biodiesel

If it's gas powered, it can run a blend of 50/50 ethanol/gas mix.  This is the easiest but you still need to buy or make the ethanol.

If you want zero gas usage, then a full conversion to ethanol operation with a need to buy or make ethanol.

If you want super clean, easy conversion, little more for high pressure tanks convert to gaseous hydrogen, biogas, or woodgas.

It's going to be so sweet to finally completely turn off the oil spigot.
