1990 wave runner will not run?

i have a 90 yamaha wave runner?

the problem is it will run as long as gas is being poured into carb. the fuel pump will pump gas but will not run with out the above being done.there is nothing between pump and carbother than fuel line, any suggestions

  1. Dude, it is old enough to vote!  Time to get a new one!


  2. Remove carburetor, disassemble, soak overnight in carb cleaner, blow out passages with compressed air (or aerosol carb cleaner), reassemble with new carb kit (including new float valve and seat), reinstall.

    If that's a two-stroke motor and you're pouring straight gas (no oil) into the carb then you're running your engine with no lubricating oil.  That's just asking for a blown powerhead.

  3. Dont let those ol' diaphram pumps fool you! 18 years of pumping has probably left the diaphram weak. You can order a rebuild kit pretty cheap. Also there is these filter/ check valve like thing on the ends of the fuel lines as they go into the tank. Take and blow compressed air into the lines pre pump back into the tank to possibly unclog it...also may be a bad reserve switch. May have to remove it and blow through it. Hope this helps!
