This engine is not a tiller. If I move the shifter into the full reverse position, it will engage in reverse but also at full throttle. I would to know how to adjust the cable to make the engine fully engage into reverse at low speed when backing away from the dock. It worked fine last year, got the boat out of storage now I have this problem.

  1. starboard side of the engine, you can see where the throttle and shift cables enter the cowl.

they look alike, so get somebody to move the shifter while you watch, to be sure you adjust the right one.  The throttle cable keeps moving after the shift cable stops.

There's a thumbscrew, looks more like a little black plastic wheel.  spinning it one way makes the cable longer, the other makes it shorter.  your cable has stretched, so try to shorten it a bit.

  2. the shift cable is out of adjustment  you have to give it more reverse
