  1. Is the arrow on your primer bulb pointed to the engine?

  2. A six hp probably won't pull fuel. A rubber flutter valve is your fuel pump. Make SURE the bulb is tight and that there are no leaks. To check, make sure cap is on tight, pump up fuel bulb and observe. If you lose pressure quickly, you have a leak. If it (the pressure) stays up say 6-10 mins you may be OK. Did you use the proper fuel line ? I once stupidly worked on  an engine for over an hour before I  realized the "fuel hose" was , in fact , a rubber hose. Rubber hoses collapse under pressure , fuel lines do not. I've also bought new bad fuel containers that had leaks. Check it carefully for a small spray after pumping up. As for pumps, when the bulb is tight, its correct. After this, you're on your own.
