1992 BMW 735IL Question....?

I have a 1992 BMW 735IL. Perfect condition, no scratches or dents.

I bought it off someone who decided they didn't want to get it fixed or even find out what was wrong. Turns out the head gasket is blown.

I was wondering how much I could get for it because I am thinking about purchasing a Honda Civic or Accord. I've searched everywhere but can't find specs or listings for it. Thanks

  1. To an educated buyer the car is worth less than a 1000 bucks running and in good shape.  There is no such thing as a perfect condition 735 since they were built with many many design errors...

The less dependable 3.5 engine gets a cracked head as much as they blow the head gasket.  Your car likely has both since its a 92 with the even thinner cylinder head walls.  They like to crack just under the cam at the rear of the head (windshield end)  If you save the car change the heater lines to the old style, you have to grab a water neck from an older 5 or 6  series and bolt it to the rear of the head. Then you have to change the upper radiator hose and the heater lines from an older 7 series(the upper hose) and a either a 5 or 7 series for the heater hose.  Also get a new thermostat and fan-clutch (must have)

Oh and also the cooling system on that car needs to have the system evacuated (under vacuum) before you add coolant they are almost impossible to bleed without a special tool..

Oh and another thing you can do is get an older 3.5 with non domed pistons and retorfit to fit in the 88 and newer 735i.  Lots of work but worth it and only a 12hp loss.
