So, due to life changes I needed a car, pronto! I bought a 1992 Accord LX,last month from someone I knew and paid $1,000 for it. I have never owned a Honda in my life , but was assured that with only (?) 165K miles on it ."still lots of life left". I seemed to run fine, so I had the A/C charged..which the mech. told me about a small leak "no big problem"..UGH..evidently a huge problem, as a week later the engine was making racket, and it turns out to be the A/C compressor...soo, $525 later, the D4 light is blinking, the SBS light is stuck on lit , and occasionally...the darn car just won't start, seems to want to try..but no spark.(incidently, I discovered today the A/C is again blowing hot air). So, Honda Masters....I am waiting. hoping and listening for any/all assitance...HELP!

  1. It sounds to me like you got stuck with a lemon. it does happen even with honda. First off I would take it to a different mechanic!!

as for the car not starting it could be the ignition modual, check to see if there was a recall on them. it may also be the main relay under the dash. they have been known to be faulty. The flashing D4 is probably a code that you should take to honda and ask them. they would also help out with the AC problem.  If it is a code for the tranny just sell it asap and buy the 5spd accord, civic or integra. way less problems with them!

  2. those honda car last quit a while if you take care of it. doing your proper oil change and tune-up etc. if you had a mechanic recharge your a/c and a week down the road the engine is making a racking noise then it's probably not your a/c it's something else. If you just got your a/c recharge and it's now blowing hot air you've gotta bad a/c compressor. there are some used a/c compressor for that vehicle running at $79.99 with $19.99 s/h. your car wont start because you may have a bad starter.

  3. I agree with the guy above me. Different mechanic.. Get a second opinion. Also this should serve as an important lesson. Whenever someone says a car has "only 165k miles" just walk away. He/She is clearly trying to persuade you to take a burden off their hands. Your lucky it isn't a european vehicle though.. the repairs for the Honda shouldn't be horrible, but if you can find something better i would recommend you try and go for that..

  4. My 94 Civic has 187K miles and it has plenty of miles (about 100k if I just change the oil properly).  It doesn't even burn one drop of oil and the the parts under the valves are clean like it was new!

    >>  and it turns out to be the A/C compressor...soo, $525 later,

I think the mechanic who worked on it screwed something up doing the AC compressor.

There you go.  He surely didn't even do that right.

    Good luck...
