Question:

1992 ford f150 problem??need help!?

When i drive my truck at speeds from 20 to like 40 with the pedal pushed a certain ammount down an annoying whistle comes from under the hood and can be heard inside the cab and when i turn the truck off it will whistle for a quick second it is annoying and embarrissing , what is problem??

  1. Sounds like a vacuum leak, probably from your air intake or EGR lines.  Check for worn out hoses.

    Another possibility is a squeaky belt.


  2. My neighbor had the same problem in her van. It is the throttle body gasket. It has a small crack in it and everytime you gas it it is trying to suck air in giving it the whistling sound.  

  3. Thomas P good answers. Also check the throttle shaft in the throttle body for a vacuum leak. Higher milage cars the bushings in the T/B will wear and cause a whistle.It sounds like that's what happened,especially if you can press the pedal at cruising speed and "make it" whistle.Chances are good that the throttle has spent a LOT of time in that position over the years.
