1992 yamaha waverunner vxr?

Question

how and where does the water come through to keep the engine cool? and also i have a red hose that is hooked to my exhaust and it hooks to the top of the gas tank, it doesn't come or go through the gas it just clamps on top of the gas tank, also the end that clamps to the gas tank has a valve looking end on it could you tell me what its for?

There is an intake inside the covered grate on the underside of your machine; cooling water enters there and is circulated for cooling purposes.

The red hose you are speaking of??  I'm not that familiar with the 92 Yamaha's, but it sounds like it might be aftermarket...

Is it actually a hose/tube or could it be some kind of sensor for exhaust temp?  If it is a hose that goes to the exhaust, does it look like something that was connected to a water scource at some time?  Perhaps there was a water scource that was disconnected and plugged for some reason that was meant to cool the exhaust...

There is a intake hose/inlet in the intake where the propulsion impeller is located.

I do not think that clamps on top of a gas tank, that's most likely the water cooling system outlet into the exhaust manifold.  This keeps the exhaust parts from becoming so hot they melt and deform parts of the PWC.  It also prevents the engine from overheatting which can cause VERY expensive damage.

The water cooling system going out of the engine also goes into a seperate tube which you see at the end of the PWC with the vertical jet of water in the air while running it.  This tells you the cooling system is working, if it stops putting up the jet of water in the air, stop running it immediately.

If you want to make sure and are good mechanically, buy a service manual for your PWC.  Otherwise, if you haven't already, take it in to be looked over this season.
