1993 500cc World Champion Kevin Schwantz pleased with Texas deal – MotoGP news
Kevin Schwantz has felt utmost pleasure after the confirmation of the deal for Texas hosting the MotoGP event by 2013.
It is the homeland for Schwantz. Being a former 500cc class champion in 1993, he feels the thrill to hold the honour in getting all together.
Schwantz was the key person to call his friends in MotoGP and FIM and make a ground for the newly born yet under-construction Circuit of the Americas near Austin city to host the premier class event. It will be the third track in line with Mazda Raceway
Laguna Seca and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Mazda Raceway was the circuit to break a decade full of drought of GP races in the United States.
The track was originally developed to cater for the Formula 1 event, which is due to host its first United States Grand Prix by 2012 with a 10-year contract. Schwantz was determined and pushed the development to consist every facility required for
the two-wheel racing.
“Having watched the development of this facility I am genuinely excited about it, and I think it's going to be highly attractive, from a rider's perspective, which is how I look at things, I think it's going to be a great track,” he said.
The former World Champion feels it will be a great challenge and the track will prove to be a long lap and safe for the rider which is an essential work to put some good laps together and lead the race.
Tavo Hellmund is a friend of Schwantz, who put all this effort together being one of the three owners of the circuit.
“When they got into the design process of it I got fairly hands on. I don't do a lot of work on the project day-to-day, but I sat in on quite a few meetings with the guys from the design group to make sure that we leave enough run-off for bikes, that
it is safe enough for motorcycles, and hopefully that'll be something that everybody notices,” he said.
Officials of other tracks which already host MotoGP event were also pleased to count the Austin circuit for the premier class event.
Miss Gill Campbell, General Manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca shared her thoughts, as this Mazda Raceway brought the MotoGP event to United States in 2005 and consider it a great addition of the third track to host the prestigious two-wheel racing
event to gain more audience. The Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix is to be held on July 22-24.
It is also rumoured that the Circuit of the Americas can replace the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The IMS Corporation President and chief Jeff Belskus was pleased to get to know about the addition of the third track and feels it will further improve
the profile of the adrenaline filled racing event. The IMS officials are committed to grow the event they host.
