1993 Mazda Rx-7 Engine Rebuild?

Question

What is the approximate engine rebuild cost for a 1993 Mazda RX-7?

These are the specs on the car.

New Turbocharger (Custom T66)

Turbo Manifold (Custom)

External Waste gate

500HP Engine Build

Port & Polished

Apex Seals & Springs, Corner Seals & Springs, Side Seals and Springs, Oil O-Rings & Springs

New Coolant, Spark Plugs, Ignition wires and Cleaning Solvent

Power Coated Upper and Lower Intake Manifold

Fuel Injectors 1600CC Rail Kit

Apex-i Power FC Computer and hand Controller

Greddy Front Mount Inter cooler Kit

The guy that I am most likely going to buy the car off of said that the engine was rebuilt 4000 miles ago. I am just curious to what it would cost to have it redone.

Also, what possible benefits would you get out of an engine rebuild?

Just noticed. Anybody who ports and polishes a turbo car doesn't know what he's doing. Beside that, figure like $400, maybe $700 to rebuild it. Costco can do it.

Found a rebuild kit online for $1200...do it yourself (which I have heard is a common practice with RX7 enthusiasts) and it will probably not be much more than that and tools...plus any machining that is needed, but that isn't going to cause a huge hike in price. If you need to have someone else do the work, then I would expect it to go anywhere from $4-5k.

Also, port and polish is not just for n/a cars...smoothing the intake and exhaust ports helps any engine, it is just more noticeable in naturally aspirated cars (heavily boosted cars should have it done as well)

Why are you going to rebuild it if it was rebuilt only 4000 miles ago?

I say anywhere from $12,000-$18,000.  But this is probably you'll be changing the suspension, and you'll need new tires.

Edit: Oops, I thought you were buying the turbocharger, having the head ported and polished, etc.  For rebuild, maybe a couple thousand, seeing how much labor is per hour.
