1993 jeep grand cherokee/ 4.0?

I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Chreokee 4.0. I am on my 2nd water pump within 2 months, Leaking from the bearing seal out of the hole. What is making this happen???

  1. I would make sure the belt tension is not too tight.. too much side force on the pulley will cause the bearings to fail.  Or perhaps you received a bad pump.


  2. Are you replacing these yourself, or having them done by a mechanic?

    If you're doing it yourself, there are many totally crappy aftermarket water pumps being sold at parts stores. I would suggest buying the next one at the dealer if this is the case.

    If you're having them done by a mechanic, both the parts and labor should still be under warranty, so let them sort it out (and gently suggest a different brand of water pump if need be).
