1994 115 hp Evinrude, RPM's fluctuate when running 200-400 rpms?

Idles and dies most of time....

When running at 4400 rpms, I can see gauge go to 4000 and then 4200 and then back to 4400. Sometimes goes to 4000 and stays there. Running in light waves will do this. Not sure if fuel filter or fuel pump? Think its fuel related and not electrical.

If fuel related...where is fuel filter?

Thanks

  1. sounds like fuel system problems, maybe a partially clogged carburetor. you can check the filter and add some of a product called Seafoam to the fuel

  2. Hi there

Will need to know if you notice the engine fluxuating up and down to properly answer your question.

  3. Okay...to burn out water...use a dab of methyl hydrate.

But...you mention watching the guage...let's call it a Tach alright?....now are you implying that you didn't actually noticing the sound of the engine speed drop?

If the engine sound level drops...fuel related.

If the engine is constant....elec. short at Tach...possible ignition or alternator concerns.

    Good luck.

  4. I agree with some of what Dave said. If the engine SOUNDS like it is slowing down, look for fuel issues. If the engine doesn't sound like it's fluctuating, you probably have a bad tach.

  5. Not sure if that year was fuel injected or not but you might do a couple of things 1. fuel injector cleaner and or a bit of water might have gotten in your system try a water remover soluction that you mix with your fuel
