1995 Chevy Tahoe (Question)

I have a 1995 Chevey Tahoes with 138,000 miles. I don't believe it's ever had a tune up. Recently I was driving and running my air and all of a sudden, the car began to sputter VERY bad. Almost to the point to where I thought it was going to cut off. My friend took a look and saw that the spark plugs had not been changed and were burnt. He changed them (this is all he did) and while it "drives" and the sputtering is not as obvious, it STILL sputters a bit as if it's not getting enough gas to the engine. When stopped at a light, it feels as if I'm in a diesel truck (this is how bad it shakes) when I accelerate, it doesn't have that immediat "take off" as it used to, its still sluggish and sputters still until it kicks into gear and then it will pick up speed. However, if I accelerate quicker than the gear will allow, it will sputter, so I basically have to slowely accelerate to avoid this. This has never happened before. wanting to know even tho we've changed the spark plugs (spaced correctly) what else could possibly be the problem. Any suggestions?

  1. Sounds like it is starving for gas, also change wires and fuel filter.

  2. It's a great time to sell that Tahoe for scrap metal. Melt value just has peaked.

Have you tried reading the on board diagnostic with a code reader? It may tell you if the fuel pump is failing etc.

  3. It's a fuel problem, maybe water in the gas, think about it , you were low on fuel got gas from somewhere different than normal and soon after your car starts acting up.try an off the shelf fuel additive from your local auto part store, and fill your tank with a better grade fuel. you may also add some injector cleaner at the same time. you will be running smooth in no time.

  4. if they changed the plugs i would change the wires and rotor  too.Another thing you could do is replace the fuel filter.Try doing these and you should see an improvement.GL

  5. Distributor cap and/or wires .the caps on these engines burn out at the center contact. the coil wire will be next due to the excessive voltage the coil produces. when changing the cap be sure to replace the rotor as i've found several bad of these also.

  6. Timing chain??? Ohhh Nooo!!
