My friend's 95 honda accord isn't running soooo well, it runs, she's able to drive it... but if it needs a new engine, generally how much would it cost to have it replaced? parts + labor?

  1. For a stock swap (same type of engine as the one being replaced) usually $500 - $1000 labour. Plus the cost of the engine which can be about the same if you find a good, used engine for cheap. Call auto wreckers in your area. If that fails, there are websites that outsource used engines.

You'll have to pay for fluids and maybe belts, hoses and other odds and ends. Good thing to check the water  and oil pumps while the engine is out of the car.

Guestimate: $1,500 - $2,500 depending on the engine... and if someone tries to take advantage of you.

  2. it will be aobut 8 hr labor so you will need to know the labor rate of the shop you are taking it to.  A new engine can cost a few thousend.  You will have to know what engine to put in it.  Parts dept can help with that.  Also used or rebuild  engines are a good sub for a new engine.

  3. It'll be about $2000 or more depending on what labor charges are in your area, how good a friend the mechanic is and the availability of a good used engine.  It's not worth the trouble or money unless the body is in mint condition.  Save a few more bucks and get a newer car.  A '95 is not OBD II compliant anyway and mechanics get lost working on older cars unless they are also older!!
