My radiator gave out and cracked early this morning and I was wondering if there is a possible way to temporarily patch this up until I save up enough money to spend on a new radiator. I really don't want to care a gallon of water with me for every trip I go on. Please Help.

  1. u can try to put some um.. i think it's called silicon it's a black glue that is used on autos.

  2. I also have a 95 Accord with the same problem, pretty much the same crack.  That top piece is plastic and JB Weld is for metal so it won't do anything. I have tried epoxy, epoxy putty, and the black silicone gasket sealer.  None of them work, eventually they all fail.  You have to replace the radiator, which is what I will probably be doing this weekend.  Oh and you better always have water with you, or I could see you getting stranded, that crack looks small but it leaks alot!  Good luck.

  3. That is a big crack! You are losing small amount of coolant right now, but eventually it will be so big that you will not be able to just top it off. You are going to have to get a new radiator. No real way to work around it.

  4. go to pep boys or similar automotive store.  They sell radiator sealant that you can pour into the radiator and will seal the hole

Sounds like it would work really well for you since you're hole sounds like its more of a slow leak rather than a huge gash.

read the instructions carefully as some require just water to be in your radiator.  Always use distilled water if thats the case.

Any mechanic or somewhat mechanically inclined individual can drain a radiator, if the sealant requires you to only have water in your cooling system.  Be sure to dispose of the coolant safely as its poisonous.  Also be sure not to run only distilled water in the winter as it will freeze and cause a rupture in your cooling system.

When you get around to buying a new radiator, try having your existing one welded to permanently fix the leak.  It usually decreases the efficiency a little bit but it'll still work fine.

Else pick one up from the junk yard.  Bargains there!

  5. Cant you get a used one at the local bone yard? Might run ya about 50$ and its not that hard to change. You might be able to jb weld it and it might work for a while but then you might blow the upper tank right off it one day while driving it.

Looking at the pic you provided its just a matter of time.

  6. JB Weld will hold that together, but you will need to sand it and get it clean first. They have a quick-dry version if you're pressed for time.
