I recvd this car upon the death of a loved one. It is a 1996 - I have had it in the shop 4x this year alone. Just got it back last week -replaced cam shaft among other things. It's cost me so far $7,000 this year. Now, I got into the car and only the driver's door opens - I only use the key as remote has not worked for a while. My tip off is the other 3 door locks DO NOT OPEN. Would this be something to do with IR Receiver in driver's door or maybe alarm/security system has to be reset - but why? is there a battery inside the key of this year car? Pls help - thanks, kathie

  1. it is  alarm system reset

  2. The battery is dead.  The tip off is that only the one door worked when you unlocked it using the key.  If the battery was not dead, the central locking system would have unlocked all the other doors at the same time.

There are 2 batteries inside the key but their only function is for the remote central locking feature.

  3. These cars are really confusing. Even though this is a bad recommendation, I would take it either to the dealer or a reputable shop. This sounds wierd. We have a 2000 E320 and I thought Ive seen it all. But I guess not. This one is wierd. It might be just the key and it might be the car.
