1996 Volvo 960 - rough idle nightmare!

i have a 97 960,  bought in may of 2010, love it, same problems with the rough idling,  took to independant mechanic.  someone previous to me toook the head off, bad intake manifold gaskets and one of the overhead cams sliped a toooth.   still in process of a minor valve job.  should be round 1800 dollars to fix according to my mechanic who treats me right and works on my 2 ea 240dls.  will see.  no damage to valves or cams soo i am hopeful.  all i can tell u is i replace 2 coils at the cost of 100 dallars for nothing because i was told #2 and #4 were misfiring, put new plugs in too, it did not fix the problem. be careful. these guys will s***w with u if they dont know what to look for. have them check your cylender pressures to see if u need the valve job. good luck

working for a dealer for over 18 years, i can tell you the tech at the dealer knew the harness was bad when he sold you the work you DID NOT NEED. i have have only seen one or two cars that ever needed injectors for this type of running condition.
i have replaced more than 25 harness for this, One as soon as last week 06.25.2009.
I would do just what the above poster said "I might also suggest that a meeting with the service manager at that dealer might also lead to some good wiil on the dealers part."
