'96 Jeep Cherokee (not a grand), 4.0L engine. my jeep will not start. it will just sit there and turn over and over and over. backfired so bad the other day that the muffler exploded. still backfires but not as bad because of the opened muffler. replaced the coil pack. replaced ECM. jeep is getting spark. replaced fuel filter. i dont think its a fuel issue because when i try to start it, it reeks like fuel and fuel comes out of the pressure relief valve on the fuel rail. need help big time. i am totally lost. thankyou for all the help. i leave for iraq again in a few weeks and i need to get this thing running.

  1. also try the fuel temp sensor..

  2. replace the pickup inside the distributor..90% of the time thats the problem.take the cap & rotor off & it slides right off. My  Best customers drive jeeps.
