  1. 35-40 MPG

Looks sporty, but mid-pack performance.  If you're looking to smoke the punks on the new 600's, you'll have to pick your races carefully.  You'll probably beat a regular 600 Ninja, but not a ZX6 Ninja 600.  The Katana is a GS, but stay away from the GSXR's at red lights.  They'll walk you.

If you're not looking to race anybody, it's a solid bike and probably priced to be very affordable.  It's worth three grand if it's absolutely spotless with low mileage, closer to two grand if it's been dropped or has sit in storage for a long period of time.

Suzuki has some of the best engineered bikes on the road.  I wrench on bikes for a living, and they will last forever if you take care of them.  I have a Ninja and two Harleys and I'm thinking about selling my Nightrod and getting the new GSXR 750.  Check the oil to make sure it's not cloudy or milky, feel the engine to see if it's been cranked, then crank the engine and watch for smoke when it first fires off.  It may have a clatter for the first few minutes, but if it's still noisy after 3-4 minutes of warm-up then I'd suggest having someone look at it.  It may be something minor, like a valve lash adjustment or cam chain tensioner, but might be something more serious like a bent valve or piston slap.
