i have a 2 cycle 1997 evinrude 115 that i just bought. I started it for the first time, let it run about 5 min and parked it. Now ther is a small amound of oil under it. It is coming out of the middle of the prop and around, is this normal after running a 2 cylce boat motor?????? Any info appreciated

  1. It sounds as if the shaft seal at the prop is leaking. Take it to a boat shop to check. Do not run until fixed. It can ruin the bottom end!! $$$$$

  2. I hope you ran it with watermuffs or in a tank.  Let's asuume you did.  If it has not been run for a while, it's very normal for some excess oil to dribble from the exhaust.  I get it on every motor I've had after the first test run of spring.  If you did not use cooling water, the others are right, you probably hosed the water pump impeller.

To check for gearcase leaks, drain a bit of oil from the drain plug on the gearcase and check for water (milky looking oil).  Gearcases range from $1200 - $2000, so double check it.

  3. If you ran it without water, replace the shaft seal & water pump impellar.
