1997 2.4 grand am with no power?

The car has been to 3 shops and now the dealer. No one can find the problem and the dealer had the car 8 days and then said well give us another 500 and we'll keep looking. The car runs and idles perfect till about 2500 rpm then it has no power and won't rev past 3500.

O2 sensor changed , fuel filter changed and pressure tested along with backflow pressure all good along with the injectors tested 4 times good at the dealer. MAF swapped and tps checked.

It seems like the car is running into a rev limiter to me and the prndl has been suggested as bad even thought the scanner reads the car changing gears. I'm currently going to swap out the PCM for one on ebay but I hate throwing money at parts that probably won't fix it.

Any ideas?

  1. check the exaust and intake if there something in there it can limit the amount of power you get i guess, id just do an engine swap but thats me.

  2. No matter what's been testd go to an exhaust/muffler shop and have the cat. converter tested. With these  problem there should be a check engine lite on.

  3. With what has been done so far, I would look to the catalytic converter

  4. I would check the catalytic converter. Do not listen to Natalia. Her response to take it to the junkyard is so stupid, just like all of her answers. Enjoy it while you can Natalia! Your days of plugging that site and answering in the repetitive manner you always answer in are coming to a close.

  5. sell it and buy something japanese like a honda or toyota, GM still continue to produce c**p.
