1997 Chevy cavalier rack and pinion adjustment

I am trying to find out if there is a preload adjustment on the rack and pinion on my 1997 chevy cavalier. I changed out the inner and outer tie rod ends and there is still has some play in it. about a 1/4 -1/8 inch. This is especially noticeable when braking the front end wanders slightly. The sway bar in front looks good as does all of the other front end parts. I narrowed it down to the rack. I just dont want to replace it if it is adjustable. Does anyone know?

there is no preload adjustment on gm cars and some trucks and taken manny racks apart

I think you have a broken belt in a tire. There is no way to adjust the preload on your rack.
