1997 Chevy cavalier rack and pinion adjustment

I am trying to find out if there is a preload adjustment on the rack and pinion on my 1997 chevy cavalier. I changed out the inner and outer tie rod ends and there is still has some play in it. about a 1/4 -1/8 inch. This is especially noticeable when braking the front end wanders slightly. The sway bar in front looks good as does all of the other front end parts. I narrowed it down to the rack. I just dont want to replace it if it is adjustable. Does anyone know?

  1. there is no preload adjustment on gm cars and some trucks and taken manny racks apart

  2. I think you have a broken belt in a tire. There is no way to adjust the preload on your rack.
