Question:

1997 SVT Cobra gear ratio?

I bought a '97 SVT back in April I knew the car had some aftermarket work done to it (exhaust and intake). Otherwise the guy i bought it from was kinda clueless about the car. I was comparing mine to a friends stock '98 SVT and noticed that highway cruising I was running about 800 RPM higher (in 5th gear 75 MPH i am running 2850RPM). We are thinking it's 4.11's or 4.30's.

I was wondering if anyone had a good gear ratio calculator I could use to figure it out?

Probably going to buy an SCT chip to do some tune up on it and I think I need ratio info to put in the SCT tuner.

  1. when you use the calculator, you have to figure in the od ratio or use 4th gear to get your miles and rpm, then use 1:1 on the calculator...

  2. That sounds like my mustang, but I have an 07.  at that speed tho you are most likely running 4.10's.  That is what I have in my car and that is about the RPM's that the engine is at when I travel at that speed

  3. sounds like 4.11's maybe 3:73's but thats a lil high rpm's for 3:73's in OD

  4. http://www.corral.net/tech/gearcalc.html

  5. Your best bet is to crack open the cover and check the numbers. There's a good chance the previous owner beat it on more than one occasion. (I would have!) That will be important infor mation when you start reprogramming it,and a gear oil change is always a good idea.

    Oil and gasket=cheap

    Axles,bearings,and gears=not cheap.

Post the numbers and one of us should be able to help. Good luck!
