Question:

1998 Buick Century AC does not work anymore

I bought a 1998 Buick Century from my step-son. The A/C was working just fine. Then the driver's side was not blowing cold. After a few days the passenger side was also not blowing cold. I have noticed that the cooling fans do not engage when I turn on the A/C. Fuses are all good. Any suggestions as to what may be the problem. I'm thinking the computer or something electrical.

  1. When you turn the ac on, look at your compressor clutch to see if it's engaged.  If not, then you need to check your refrigerant pressures.  If you don't know how, or don't have the equipment, take it to the shop for a diag.  The cooling fans will not turn on if there is not sufficient pressure in the system.

If the compressor clutch briefly engages, then turns back off, then you should focus on cooling fan system.

Either way, an experienced tech will be able to tell you why your system's not working in about 20 minutes.  A small diagnostic charge would probably save you a lot of money and time.
