1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4, wierd noise?

dodge ram 4x4 with 93000 miles. wierd noise coming from underneath the steering column. its a ticking noise that gets louder as i press the gas pedal. the noise has been getting louder, i have no idea what this could be.. any info for this strange problem would be appreciated.

I could be the steering dampener ( it's kinda like a shock absorber for the steering column ) without one the drive would feel very rough on your hands, arms, shoulders. Not to hard to have repaired and not all that expensive. Good Luck.
