1998 Dodge Ram wierd transmission?

I have a 98 Dodge ram 1500 4x4 and it has 93000 miles on it..since i bought the truck used about 6 months ago...the engine overspeeds for about a seond or 2 before shifting to 2nd gear...everything is fine in first..right before shifting to 2nd the engine overspeeds a little for abut a seoncd or 2, then shifts..everything is fine from there...so is this normal? any help is appreciated

  1. this is not normal, change the fluid and pickup filter and see if that yields an improvement, if not, I say drive it till the tranny blows, then have a rebuilt trans installed........


  2. Sounds like you have a kick down band problem, either too loose, worn or the servo is leaking and causing it to slip before it totally engages, It could also have too low line pressure, or throttle pressure set too low.  

  3. no not normal. have at least trans filter and fluid change.  

  4. Change the fluid and adjust the bands before you spend a lot of money on it.
