Question:

1998 Ford Escort brake lights

Until recently when I depressed the brake pedal the brake lights came on at the slightest touch but in the past few weeks they only respond after a couple of seconds causing me some concern.

I have checked the connection on the small relay switch above the pedal and that seems ok. On the relay switch there is a small red button that is sticking out. Does this matter? I have pressed it back in but nothing changes.

Any answers?

  1. I have always found rear lights on fords worrying.

Im not sure if the red button is some form of relay.

    Go to fords maintainence website..

  2. the red button is what engages the relay. when you depress the pedal it pushs the button in to engage relay  the whole thing is adjustable  move closer to brake pedal for faster respond. if not working replace.

  3. that brake light switch is adjustable.
