Question:

1998 Honda Magna oil leak?

Just bought a 98 magna v65 with less than 5000 miles. When its parked I've notice a small drip of oil coming off the bottom of the left rear cyclinder head. Why and where could this be coming from on an engine with so few miles?

  1. Ur right about the miles, sure it's the head leaking and not lthe valve cover? I'd clean it good and check before having head retorqued. the valve cover is held down with 4 allen (6mm wrench) head bolts that are fairly easy to over torque, because they are positive stop. The "easy" way to fix a slight valvecover leak is to remove bolts and put in new grommets or a thin rubber shim on top of old ones (and I say "easy" bc even this involves lifting gastank, moving coils, heat shield, etc).

a real easy thing to try on the valve cover would be to find the exact place, clean very good, then try to seal spot w/ silicone gasket sealer.

  2. Miles have little to do with it. If it has anything o do with it, it's BECAUSE it has so few miles. Machines are not meant to sit. It may just need to be re-torqued. Let a dealer do it. He can check it over while it's there.

  3. 5000 miles is not a lot of miles but it IS 10 years. After heat cycles I would  I look around the lower cylinder gasket.
