1998 Honda civic headunit / tape player codes??

Question

Hi, I know this is a long shot but here it is, I have just bought a Honda civic for saving some gas with the high prices growing. And it didn't come with a radio so I have gotten one from a nice older gentlemen and he doesn't know about the codes or VIN. He apparently bought it from a wreck civic 98 at an auction deal. I call Honda and they said they can't give it over the phone or if I didn't buy the car from them then its going to cost $92,which is ridicules because I paid $100 for the head unit. Please help..

$100! you paid too much for a 10 year old stereo.  These sell on ebay for $30-40.

If it came from a 98 civic, just give the Honda dealer your VIN #.  There should be no reason they withhold this information for a 10 year stereo worth $40.

if you don't have the code card, CALL HONDA, There is only -1- code to a car/stereo. If you can't pay the for the vehicle, why did you buy it ???

DO NOT PUT CODES ONLINE they can and will be stolen.

Code cards are sold WITH THE CARS or Honda will tell you over the phone. (call Honda, toll free with the VIN#..not your local dealer.)

get out your phone book and look up the phone numbers for other Honda dealers in your area.  tell them you disconnected your battery and you need the code for your radio.  then tell them you have the serial number.  the serial number is all they need to look up the code.  keep calling around until someone looks it up for you.  it only takes about a minute to do so.

don't worry about putting that information on-line.  each code is individual to the radio; there is no universal code.  since we don't know who you are or what car that stereo is in it should be pretty sterile information.
