1998 bmw 318ti help?

98 bmw 318ti, white, 4 cylinder, 2 door, tinted windows, 102,000 miles, great interior/exterior, 17" black custom rims, has non-working sunroof, car has been sitting at the house since december because it has an electrical problem, and doesn't start. will sell for 1,900 with rims or 1,500 without rims

i was looking to buy this car... but with the electrical problem, would it be worth it?

  1. do the lights come on in the dash? usually we have these cars come in with bad keys... otherwise i have seen where the fuse boxes have burnt... as for the overlook, usually electrical problems arent bad at all unless you've had the (knowitall) who has tried to wire in an alarm sys or something to that effect...

  2. Get a mechanic to look at it and see what it would cost to fix it.

    You might want to ask if the driver side window regulator has been replaced.  If not, it will be soon.

    According to www.edmunds.com the trade in value of a 1998 BMW 318ti is about $3K, and the private sale value is about $4K.

  3. It would definately be worth bringing it to a dealer (with owner's permission), and having them diagnose the problem. If it is something simple, I'd jump on it! the 318s are relatively cheap to maintain, and get good gas mileage, while keeping true to the BMW roots.
