Ok, maybe I'm just stupid like other people have said, but i have followed HAYNEs word for word here. The truck has a 5.7 vortec v8, and It sounded like the rocker arms/pushrods were knocking around a bit too much. So I followed the instructions--tigthening the appropriate (closed) valves at tdc and 360 degrees out. When I tightened hydrualic valves before It was always to torque, and sometimes finishing with an angle meter.
Here the instructions say (in short) to "tighten until all play is removed, then turn each nut an additional 270 degrees to center the lifters." I did this, and now the engine sounds really really bad (I triple checked the spark plug connections and other electrical, all is ok). All I did is tighten the rocker arms as specified, now people are telling me I just turned my rocker arms into spaghetti. What did I do wrong, or could something else be the problem (engine was running ok this morning before tightening). I'm a backyard mechanic who is learning from books, so call me ignorant-- just don"t call me stupid.
